At Physicians Premiere Weight & Wellness Center, we prescribe a full range of FDA-approved oral medications for weight management, tailored to your medical history, goals, and lifestyle. While newer injectable options like GLP-1s have gained popularity, oral medications remain highly effective, accessible, and affordable tools in the treatment of obesity.

Contrave (Bupropion + Naltrexone)

Why Choose Oral Weight Loss Medications?

  • Non-injectable and easier to access

  • Helpful for curbing cravings and controlling portions

Weight loss medications—whether injectable or oral—are safe and often necessary for long-term use. They’re designed not only to help you lose weight but also to support weight maintenance and prevent regain. How long you stay on medication during maintenance will depend on your individual needs, and our goal is always to use the lowest, most effective dose to keep you healthy and feeling your best.

Off-Label Medications for Weight Loss

  • In certain cases, medications not officially approved for weight loss can be used “off-label” to help patients achieve healthier weight. Our medical team uses evidence-based strategies to prescribe these medications safely and effectively when appropriate.

  • These options are especially helpful for patients who have not responded to or are unable to use traditional weight loss medications.

Common Off-Label Weight Loss Medications

Metformin

  • Originally used for type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance
  • Helps improve insulin sensitivity and reduce abdominal fat
  • Can reduce food intake
  • Especially useful for patients with prediabetes, PCOS, or insulin resistance

Topiramate (Topamax)

  • An anti-seizure and migraine medication that can help reduce appetite and cravings
  • Often used in combination with phentermine (as in Qsymia), but can be prescribed alone

Bupropion (Wellbutrin)

  • An antidepressant that may aid weight loss by affecting dopamine and norepinephrine
  • Can reduce emotional eating
  • Often paired with naltrexone (as in Contrave), but can also be used alone

  • Helps reduce reward-driven eating and food cravings
